Reporting Bugs ¶ĭigiKam is an Open Source project. It is fully 16 bit enabled including all available tools, supports RAW format conversion through libraw, DNG export and ICC color management work flow. While digiKam remains easy to use, it provides professional level features by the dozens. To compare visually images side by side, one other tool named Light Table is provided to select the best shots taken from a series. The images post processing can be easily done by a set of tools though the Batch Queue Manager, or by many import and export tools dedicated to work with remote web services. More than 1000 digital cameras are supported by the gPhoto library. Thus, digiKam is a formidable Digital Asset Management (DAM) software including powerful image editing functions.Īn easy-to-use camera interface is provided as Import Tool, that will connect to your digital camera and download photographs directly into digiKam Albums. It has many features for viewing, organizing, processing and sharing your images. digiKam enables you to manage large numbers of digital photographs in Albums and to organize these photographs for easy retrieval using tags (keywords), captions, collections, dates, geolocation and searches. It provides a simple interface which makes importing and organizing digital photographs a snap. There is an overview of free management software here, although interestingly, DigiKam si not mentioned.DigiKam is an advanced digital photo management application for Linux, macOS and Windows desktop. There are plenty of programs that will do that under Windows, and they are all better than DigiKam. You might also try looking at FastStone, XnView and some people seem to like Picasa.Īlthough some of the other paid for programs (PaintShopPro, AfterShotPro) do a reasonable job of image management, none of them can hold a candle to Lightroom for image management.įorget dual boot and Linux if all you need is a DAM. I also paid for IMatch, which is one of the most user-unfriendly programs I have tried, even in it's latest (v5) form. I've tried numerous DAM programs (in Windows) and I found the free version of Zoner PhotoStudio to be a decent tool, although I eventually settled on Photo Supreme (formery IDImager) which is a paid for program. ![]() I found it the slowest image management software I've ever tried.Īfter about 5 hours it had only loaded about half my 27,000 images into it's database.Īlong with the caveats about it not being fully supported by Windows, this was enough to make me give up trying to use it as a DAM. I tried an earlier version of DigiKam for Windows some time ago. If you've used it in Windows, what were your impressions? If you've used it in both Windows and Linux, how does it compare?Īre there any other Free or Open Source Software options to look at that can compare to Adobe Lightroom or Bridge, or have the features of DigiKam? DigiKam seems to check all the boxes as a program that can do anything, but it's a Linux program that says it only has "partial" Windows support. Does anyone have experience using DigiKam as their image organizer in Windows? I am looking for a program that does it all, but I can't afford any of the Adobe options at the moment.
